Recently, I had the privilege of attending the EMerald Coast Conference with a member of our clinical advisory board, Dr. Hamad Husainy. Dr. Husainy is an emergency physician at Hellen Keller hospital in Sheffield, Alabama and is the founder of Sycamore, an innovative technology platform addressing rising costs in staffing and disrupting the locums model.
Many ACEP chapters were in attendance—some traveling all the way from Montana—and it was exciting to see the mix of physicians, PAs, nurse practitioners, and administrators gather in Destin, Florida for four days of educational meetings.
Dr. Ryan Stanton, Emergency Physician with Central Emergency Physicians and Baptist Health in Lexington and Medical Director for the Lexington Division of Fire/EMS gave two presentations over the four-day conference. Day one, Dr. Stanton discussed common misconceptions as recommended by ED physicians in “Myth Busting 2019: There’s a Drug for That.” Day three, he gave a presentation on vaccine refusals and the impact that has on emergency medicine.
Because Collective Medical was a partner of the EMerald Coast Conference, we attended the meeting to present solutions for substance use disorder, ED utilization in relation to patients with mental health conditions, and decreasing unnecessary hospital readmissions.
