Recap: American Hospital Association Leadership Summit

Darcie Robran-Marquez, MD, MBA, CPE, Executive Director of Population Health for Presbyterian Healthcare Services in New Mexico, touted the benefits of using data to identify individuals—many of them with behavioral health diagnoses—who frequently use hospital services across different health care systems as the basis for improved coordination of their care at a recent American Hospital Association Leadership Summit Ignite session in San Diego.

Collective’s platform and its ability to support providers across the state in identifying and supporting these individuals was at the center of Dr. Robran-Marquez’ seven-minute talk, which was followed by a group discussion. New Mexico health plans and hospitals in 2015 began a statewide rollout of the Collective Platform. Presbyterian Healthcare Services has nine hospitals in a variety of locations across the state, ranging from urban Albuquerque to Santa Fe to more rural areas such Clovis and Ruidoso.

In her presentation, Dr. Robran-Marquez noted that 90 percent of individuals with 10 or more emergency department visits in New Mexico have a behavioral health diagnosis. “The solution,” she said, “lies in real-time data, care coordination, and a methodology to target and prioritize the population.”
